Top Gear is funny. Prius gets worse mpg highway vs city. For the expense + complexity, I don't get why people buy them vs a Civic.
In the end, a c900 with a stick gets good enough fuel economy to completely not justify replacing it with a new econobox... Gas would have to be hugely expensive to break even!! So I wasn't suggesting that... more that if one was going to get a new car anyway, and was not a driving enthusiast, civic fuel economy is it's big selling point.
I actually hate it when people/ the media/ government try to suggest that it is somehow "eco-friendly" to junk an older car like a c900 that gets decent fuel economy, runs great, and has low emissions (last time ours was tested, they said "it's better than a new car")... It takes a lot of energy, resources, etc to manufacture a car! c900's are great cars, and to a large extent, the rest of the industry is still catching up (eg you need at least an EX civic to get rear disc brakes).
I have to say though, catching that imperial gallons error, makes me feel a little better about our Saab's fuel economy :-)...
James...
