Thank you for your empathy. I did exactly the same thing, exchanged the passenger side inner driver with one from a different transmission I had on hand. I had heard of the spacer issue but misinterpreted the issue, I thought the spacers were to stay with the inner driver assembly.
Because of this I am about 70% convinced that the ones on the car are from the wrong transmission. I actually marked inside of each shim from the transmission I had lying around with red stain. I don't see red on the ones in hand so the next step is to check the ones on the car. Red stain = wrong ones.
I don't actually feel qualified to do much more that this. In fact I should have left good enough alone and left the old inner drived on the transmission - they only had slight wear.
Oh, and I did wake up last night thinking about this!
