I see many cars that has been serviced in a similar pattern (as little as possible) where they have picked and choose the easy stuff and then the car has issues that needs to be addressed.

If not all service items are up to par, that's where we have to start when fault tracing a problem since time is money and no customer wants to pay for a shop beating around the bush trying to find the problem. In the end, it might turn out to be a bad ignition rotor or a bad plug wire that looked ok on the outside and should have been replaced already if the proper major service had been done.

If someone can do all the work them self and are also in tune with the car and don't might if it stalls because they know what the problem is, that's fine.
But it is also people out there that depends heavily on their cars and want the peace of mind that it is serviced properly so at least the basic stuff won't leave them stranded and also that they can't do the work them self if something happens.

Finding a good mechanic in a crisis situation can be a handful and the chances for being "taken" royally is even greater when things goes wrong.

So since we don't know what the major service includes, I still say it is a good price.
And since we don't know if the alternator price includes belts and bushings too which it very well might and that the suggested retail price for the alternator alone is $305.00 if it had been replaced at a Saab dealer, that price is not a rip off either.

Since I know I'm right, I had to respond ;o)
