Methyl Ethyl Ketone has always been readily available.
The common name is Lacquer Thinner.
Di-Methyl Ketone is Acetone.
Both of these are potent plastic and paint solvents, use with care.

PS I think the best way to clear a Coke-gummed ignition switch would be to squirt some very warm Vodka into the keyhole with a squirt bottle (think Ketchup dispenser). The best solvent for sugar/syrup is water.
The 50% ethanol will prevent the water from freezing up in these temperatures. A final blast of compressed air would help too...
