Automatic: Poor highway mileage as compared to the stick. They only came in 3-speed versions.
The convertibles are great cars, but know that trunk space is limited, and they can be real "flexible flyers" (e.g. lots of cowl shake). Saab and ASC did a great job reinforcing the body, but cutting the roof off doesn't do anything for the structure.
The NG 900 - less cowl shake, but much more limited trunk space, and the electric top can be a nightmare to fix if it isn't sorted already (the manuals for the electric top on the NG 900 take up more shelf space than all the manuals for a C900!) If you like that body, get the 9-3 version (99-03). Went back to a hydraulic top, and to a single latch handle.
What the NG900/9-3 share, though is the MUCH better Aisin 4-speed automatic trans. Also, with Trionic on the turbos, the mileage difference between stick and auto is a lot less than it was on the C900.
Saab didn't really get the cowl shake down to a manageable level until the 04 9-3 Convertible.
I prefer the C900 CV myself, though I'd not use it as a daily driver.
