I've owned 6 C900 convertibles and obviously like them a lot. But if you want an auto I would suggest an NG900 or OG 9-3. Four of my C900's were autos and I've never gotten more than 20 MPG--in typical urban mix 16 to 17 is normal. Plenty of people still drive C900's and they work just fine but newer Saabs are better at just about everything--faster, smoother, quieter, etc. C900's can be a bit "fiddley" but if you work on them yourself is not a big deal. But it's getting harder and harder to find people who know how to work on them. The newer cars are pretty conventional and anyone who works on imports can handle most things. The later NG900's and OG9-3's are some of the most reliable Saabs ever built. My '98 was so reliable and trouble free my mechanic thought I was mad at him. I used to go for months and months without opening the hood--it kind of started freekin' me out.
