LOOKS like motor oil, but I guess it could be steering

I'm not sure what kind of oil (or oily fluid it is). My floorboard pads seemed to have black motor oil in them, but I guess anything would look pretty dark after sitting for so long undiscovered. Right now, the pads are out of the car, so the floorboards are bare except for the new coat of undercoating spray. When I dab at the oil it appears black, but that might be because it's taking a bit of the undercoating with it.
The mysterious part is that i can't see where the oil is coming from. It's in two spots:
1. all the way in the corner, near the Jetronic box. It's possible that it might be running down the bundle of cables that runs vertically there. The cable bundle is slightly oily to touch.
2. There's another spot more toward the middle of the passenger footwell area where there's a 2" circular indentation that kind of looks like a drainhole that's been plugged. That circle has a tiny bit of oil in it.
Keep in mind, this car hasn't been driven at all since re-doing the floor! So these little bits of oil are just accumulating from running the engine while parked.
It looks a little dark to me to be power steering fluid, but I guess that's possible, for the reasons mentioned earlier. What would you do to check? Try to follow the power steering line and look for leaks?
Thanks,
Mike
