fwiw, 2010 is the old 9-5... can't buy the new one yet (here anyway)...
2010 is the newest mce of the 9-5 and may be a little more prone to that sort of stuff (GM cheapened up the aesthetics in 2006). Certainly my neighbour was impressed by the neat thunk of the doors of the 2004 9-5 arc we had in the driveway last fall... he had to open + close the door a couple times + commented on the high level of quality you just don't find in normal cars (he has a honda crv + a toyota van, both fairly new). No squeaks or rattles I noticed in that car...
Owning 2 classic 900s, I notice a difference in quality of "feel" (especially interior) between the c900 + the 2004 Arc (much more so 2006+). I'd even say the older seats are more comfortable (did back to back 1000 mile drives 9-5 vs c900)... but the 9-5 has SAHR. The 9-5 is a fantastic highway cruiser, the c900 more fun around town... In a sense though, the 9-5 should be more directly compared with the 9000 (now that was a solid car - tearing into one at a junkyard, I was really struck as I opened the door by the quality of the rubber seals + how expensive those must have been!!)...
I disagree with the value comments... The 9-5 was heavily discounted ($10-12k off msrp) in later years. A c900 optioned out would have cost the same, but in 1990 dollars... there's been some inflation since!
Overall, the 9-5 is an outstanding car + as soon as I find the right one used (not easy it seems!), we will probably have one in the driveway (along side the c900s)...
James...
