Well, actually, it's more "what does BAIC from China have in store for it". The old 9-5 technology, tooling, platform etc was sold to China. And they plan to make it big there! Spyker gets to start off with a new (bigger) 9-5 with more GM core than ever (no more iron block), but lots of other Saab stuff has worked in over top of it + sounds like a good car (remember Saab engineering has improved GM's core). we'll see. I'm looking forward to the new 9-3 due in a few years which is rumored to make a connection back to the c900. That would be awesome!
Oh, and the other (and biggest) core element of the (old) 9-5 that links it back to c900 is the original 9-5 design lead was Einar Hareide who worked along side Bjorn Endvall on the NG900. And of course Endvall was lead designer for the c900, who worked alongside Sason on the 99. That's the link to the past. In the early 2000s GM parachuted in new designers (Mauer + Lo), and pushed out the old, and there was a design disconnect as a result starting with the 9-x. The cosmetics of the 2006+ 9-5 you were in got a half-way 9-x "facelift" treatment from Lo/GM.
To keep this relevant to the c900 board - I guess the way I look at it is I want to keep at least 1 of the c900s going for a long time, so having another car (currently a c900 beater) to get me through the salty winter isn't a bad thing. Certainly a 9-5 is better for that than a Camry. On the highway, the 9-5 will definitely put a smile on your face! Do you drive your SiS 365 days a year? You must have something else, no? hopefully vvack will keep driving that SPG a little...
