If someone can get that kind of money more power to them, just don't attribute it to skill or science. I've been watching cars make the transition from used heap to charished classic since the 60's and there's a pattern to it. This process started with C900's a few years ago, was on hold for the last two years and is starting to resume. The reason prices are so spotty is simply supply and demand being very different in different places. As the bargains slowly disappear people start searching harder, eventually the only ones left will be the ones going for top buck. In the midwest you rarely see them for sale so nice ones bring good money and people are expanding their searches to the east and west coast where they're more plentiful (and cheap). The way it will work is the real creampuffs will see steady appreciation. As the rust buckets and heaps disappear completely, the more mediocre cars will get much harder to find and will get much closer to the creampuffs in price. The presense of cheapies luls people into thinking there's plenty of them around but they are disappearing fast. It's funny how it works, it's almost like a switch flipping. All of a sudden people start relizing how hard they are to find, a sort of panic sets in and prices go up very quickly. I've seen it happen in exactly this way with cars from the 50's and 60'. The C900 won't ever be a '65 Vette, it'll probably paralel a TR6 or 2002/GTV, etc. but they are heading in that direction.
