A real 'Car Talk' moment... Diagnosis=50% Clutch. 50% Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Fri, 4 Mar 2011 17:06:56 In Reply to: Transmission...., SI, Thu, 3 Mar 2011 13:45:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
something freaky i can't figure right now in the transmission (scary)...
something tragic has most probably happened to the clutch. Because you can select gears only with engine off, the clutch is basically not releasing enough to allow complete separation of engine/trans, but at the same time not engaging enough to provide drive torque. So the varying amounts of 'drive' you experienced was because of the failing clutch, and being stuck in gear was just a symptom of the poor clutch operation-you can't really pull the car out of most gears without the clutch-except of course when the revs and power are balanced to remove the loading on the gears. Unfortunately, the description is still a little vague, and we don't have any observations from under the hood, either.
Good luck
