Both those have smaller pinion bearing Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Sun, 5 Jun 2011 20:18:29 In Reply to: Manual transmission code, Jims900S, Sun, 5 Jun 2011 13:40:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
which is what you currently have. Starting in 1989 Saab improved with a larger taper roller bearing on pinion gear side of bearing. GM4xxxx is rubber front mount. GM5xxxx is hydraulic front mount. If you buy hydraulic tranny, front cover would have to be changed to your cover. 3rd digit being 6 means has 31/26=.84 triple chain cogs. 7 means 32/25=.78 cogs. You could try earlier 5-spd boxes, but you might have to change axle inner drivers if they use the smaller axle tripod bearings. Early boxes before 1986 also may not have the 3rd/4th gear shift rod centering inside the tranny case, which yours has. 1991-1994 non-turbo boxes have weaker thin brass shift forks and no dipstick or tranny drain plug. These are drained by removing differential rear cover. A couple of C900 5-spd boxes are listed on Saabnet parts classifieds. You might also try a wanted ad there.
