Add turbo overboost switch to your list Posted by Steve Schwedland [Email] (#2368) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Steve Schwedland) on Wed, 3 Aug 2011 11:40:31 In Reply to: 88 SPG intermittent no-start, Steve, Tue, 2 Aug 2011 10:35:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just yesterday I was stranded on the side of the road TWICE in my '88 900TC.
Last week I had an issue where the engine was acting fuel starved and then wouldn't start at all. I swapped in a good fuel pump and all seemed well. Then yesterday on the way to work the engine just stopped and wouldn't start. After getting a tow home, I swapped in an ignition amplifier and coil (which I had in the parts bin in my garage and I knew were good) with no luck. So off I went to the local Pull and Pay and got a distributor. Dropped that in and it started right up. Problem solved, Hall effect sensor ... not so fast.
So I jumped in the car and went to return some stuff and the engine just stopped again about ten miles from home on the interstate. I was perplexed, I know that a junk yard distributor could have also been bad, but the odds of the exact same problem were high. Eventually, on the side of the highway at rush hour, it dawned on me to check the turbo overboost switch. So I pulled the knee bolster off and dropped the bracket. After jumping the wires it started right up. So I grabbed a spare fuse and plugged the wires into it and off I went.
Tonight I will be looking through my spare parts bins for a good overboost switch which know I have but have no idea where.
