I can't believe the number of "rust-free" C900s...

...I have looked at which turn out to have near-catastrophic rust in the driveshaft tunnels or lower control arm mounting areas. The driver's side is particularly scary as you can't really monitor it from above... and I'm in Vancouver, BC--it's not like we get a ton of snow here... there are fewer and fewer C900s which are ACTUALLY RUST-FREE... like bic says, if you've found some rust on your car chances are it's worse than you think somewhere else. I've bought $100 parts C900s which Saab mechanics have continued to have the owners pour money into as brutal structural rust was never mentioned... the only way you can ever be sure is to get under the car yourself and carefully inspect the well-documented problem areas.

If it's already rusty, go ahead and enjoy it in the winter--they make fantastic winter cars. If it is REALLY rust-free, sell it to someone who can afford to store it for the winter, if you can't find a way...

At this point, more C900s I look at have rust than not... old cars now... we gotta take care of the good'uns.

'85 SPG (with literally no rust--undercoated--always southern BC car)
'89 SPG (with some rust creeping in--car sold in Calgary, moved to BC when it was 2 years old, no undercoating. staggering difference compared to the '85...)
