Well there are four boots after the compressor; one at the compressor, one at the intercooler inlet, one at the intercooler outlet and one at the throttle body. Any of them can have a rent that opens under pressure but is invisible otherwise. The stubby boot at the turbo outlet is the one that's most often the culprit. (I think I confused that boot with the angled turbo inlet boot in my earlier post, sorry.) If your car runs poorly when trying to gently accelerate with part or light throttle above 3000 rpms (less throttle than would normally spool up the turbo) then the problem is not turbo or induction related. It would be a problem with the ignition or injection systems, possibly a defective fuel pressure regulator, ignition timing that is way off spec. or a bad coil among other things. If the car will accelerate smoothly at part throttle all the way up to high speed then pull those boots off and examine them very closely inside and out for splits.
