Re: Convertible Top Glass Window Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Tue, 14 Feb 2012 09:49:51 In Reply to: Convertible Top Glass Window, Chad, Tue, 14 Feb 2012 04:35:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The window itself is not terribly expensive ($200-$300 when available from Saab), but the labor to have it installed can be. The glass is bonded to a cloth valence that is stapled to the body near the trunk opening. Also, it is stapled under the outer shell of the top.
A new window with an old top can make the old top look really old...
Going used with a top is a crap shoot. These tops are fitted to the front bows, but stretched, stapled and trimmed to the last bow and the body (like buying dress trousers...). In theory, all CVs are the same, but, particularly in the early years, there could be tolerances that would mean one top was trimmed enough shorter than another to be unusable on a different car.
