Seems things are a lot less consistent up here. I've seen black/tan, black/grey, grey/grey, red/black, and even one that's grey exterior with colorado red interior including dash... The vast majority seem to have the side vent covers, though some don't, my '89 included. Certainly, black with tan interior seems to be the most common SPG colour scheme up here, with grey/grey being 2nd, black/grey 3rd, and red/black a distant fourth, then everything else an extreme rarity.
All Canadian T16 cars have a 250km/h speedo, as well as pretty much every Canadian 900 since '82. All CDN-mkt 900s have H-code headlamps with wipers.
One trick I like to use is to see how the SPG panels are attached -- everything should use screws, except rivets are used at the base of the driver and passenger door panels -- check from the bottom inside of the door where the rust usually is :) Rivets everywhere or screws on the door panels indicate non-factory fitted panels.
I don't believe that any '85/'86 SPGs (US or CA) got the lowered suspension... but for those early cars, existence of a front sway bar is easy to check and makes it likely you're looking at the real deal.
Never noticed the tire-rating sticker -- I will look for that on my cars and report back...
There's clearly some confusion on when SPGs got upgraded to 165bhp -- the appearance of the "premium unleaded fuel only" sticker would almost certainly coincide with this... Surely, my old '88 SPG had it and my '89 SPG has it, the '85 SPG does not. I believe '87 would have had it as I understand that's the first that the SPG got 165bhp, a whopping 5 more than the regular T16's 160! Early 165bhp SPGs use an APC box with a part # that ends in 127, while normal T16s end in 599. It is my understanding that NO SPG ever came stock with a red box (unless the Engine Tuning Kit was selected as an option at the dealer), though this may not be the case with the '90 and '91 cars which specced 175bhp with the Mitsu turbo.
