I don't know much about automotive painting, and I know the application skills and need for quick cleanup of the gun and can may semi rule it out, but what about two-part polyurethane paint?
Several years ago I bought a gallon of Sherwin Williams Polane Plus industrial paint in a color they matched to a sample, for a printing press I own.
I painted some with it, in part with one of those little bottles you attach a spray bottle to. The paint is very impressive, high gloss and tough as nails.
Where I kind of goofed up and got a rough surface texture, it sanded smooth with a very fine paper and buffed up to perfection. And it has been totally impervious to solvents and staining by spilled printing ink.
My understanding was that S-W also made it as an automotive paint, but at any rate the industrial stuff was great, they will color match to any shade.
I think it's about the same as Dupont Imron.
The price then seemed high, maybe $80 a gallon, but for quality it was well worth it. I'm sure it costs more now but a gallon goes a long way, especially since you add the hardener and also solvent so yield is much more.
