Lots of prep work as you know. Get a run in enamel and its time to sand and repaint that panel. Get a run in base coat clear coat app and you can fix the run in the clear coat easier. make it too dry or have orange peel you can buff that out too. One of major reasons the clear coat peels is too much drying time between base coat and clear coat, or too thick on clear coat. I wasn't too good at the clear coat so had it professionally buffed after wards and it was great. I think it depends on your application ability. Just practice some on a vertical piece of card board or even plexiglass if you can avoid the runs there you are ready to gun the enamel. Given the choice, I'd go enamel, which I plan to do with my 88 SPG. Call and ask a paint shop (not Maaco)the difference besides the price. Good luck
