russel,
There's a lot of things we can advise you to check but it will help to know more about the car and transmission before we start the chase. As vvack asked, what's the mileage, how long have you owned the car (we'll need to know the history concerning the transmission's performance), when was the last time it ran or ran right and was used regularly? We'll start with that and see where it goes.
Of course the number one thing that keeps any automatic transmission from working is being low on ATF. This car requires type F fluid only (not Dexron) and the transmission must be up to normal operating temperature and idling when the level is checked. The dipstick will tell you nothing useful if you check it with the unit cold and/or not running.
