I got one of those kits Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Thu, 11 Apr 2013 19:11:51 In Reply to: OE heat control valve long gone......, DET17 [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 11 Apr 2013 09:47:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
and repaired a heater valve.
It was darned hard to turn for about a year. In order to get some heat, I would slowly move the control bit by bit when the engine was up to operating temp - turning it just under the torque that I thought would break the plastic U-joint. Eventually, the new o-rings softened up enough that it turns like a new OEM heater valve.
And I grabbed a used heater adjustment shaft at a pick-n-pull just in case I broke this one.
Of course, I live in ATL, so the heating season is way shorter than it is above the GA/Tenn border.
