electrical issue? Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Sun, 28 Apr 2013 22:47:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Wanted to see if this appears to be an issue. Took off driving the car (it had sat for a week). It was a fairly hot day, so turned on the A/C full blast, and since I was going on the freeway, also turned on the headlights.
All off a sudden the A/C fan started running very slow, and I looked down at the voltmeter and it was below 12V. Turned off the headlights and after awhile the A/C started blowing cold and full blast again. Later in the day, I also turned on the A/C full blast, headlights, stereo. The voltmeter was always hovering just above 12V, of course a lot less if you had to stop for awhile in traffic on the freeway.
I seemed to remember in the past, that if one was cruising on the freeway, that headlights, A/C, and radio should be no problem, and you'd be well above the 12V line, sort of almost in the middle of 12V and 14V. In this case it was always hovering just above 12V. Is this how it should be? Was it maybe just because it was a hot day?
The car's battery (Interstate) isn't more than two years old. The alternator was replaced last year, though I haven't gone and checked what was put in there and what amperage. (Done by SAF in Santa Clara...).
