What is the scoop on distributor for '88 Turbo engine? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 4 May 2013 15:02:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I spotted a ripe ad (posted late March) for an '88 Turbo CV with Auto and only 74K miles in my local area. Price is attractive and car is said to have run great until the distributor "blew out". I assume the seller means an oil seal in the distributor let go and the distributor needs to be replaced or rebuilt.
Are there quality rebuilts available? In the back of my mind I think I read that there are actually two seals in these and most rebuilders only replace the easy one, meaning you must do this yourself if you want it done right. Or am I confusing cars & engines?
I haven't seen the car in person yet but am waiting to hear if it is still available and when I could make an appointment. Photos look great, white exterior with no visible rust (maybe fuel door), wine colored seats are heavily cracked but do not look to be rotted or torn like many other cars. Black convertible top is fairly new. Radio appears original and dash hasn't been butchered. Misisng pinstripe on rear fenders, both sides, has me wondering about previous body repair.
