Headgasket - Additional Sealant? Posted by nateh89spg [Email] (#563) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nateh89spg) on Tue, 14 May 2013 09:11:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey All,
Replacing the headgasket in my 88SPG due to leaking fluids externally (not over heating or internal contamination). I've read (somewhere) about using additional sealant (permatex anaerobic / aviation sealant) around the timing cover and the oil passage "under" the distributor to help prevent future issues. Makes sense to me as these areas are outboard of the head bolts.
What's the general consensus for those who have done many of these with long term results (positive or negative)? Any need to seal the block side of the gasket? I suspect if any issues were to arise, the leak would manifest itself on the head side of the gasket.
Thanks in advance for opinions.
Take Care,
Nate
