Probably the sidewinders in the 9000 and NG cars by a small margin. I actually think that the C900 units, manual and auto, were both pretty good considering their vintage and all. I saw them routinely get 150,000 miles, sometimes much more, and that's pretty good for a transmission from the old days when most units would only do 100,000 reliably. I think that if the C900 units were as easy to R and R as conventional FWD and RWD units there'd be a lot less griping about them being "weak". All the needle bearings in the early V4 Saab transmissions was a soft spot but the later ones had better steel sleeves in place of needle bearings and I would even install custom made bronze bushings in them and at that point they would really run a long time. I do think highly of the ZF4HP18 although they gave Saab some serious headaches in the beginning.
