RogerD is on the money ( as usual )
Here is what I do -- given that you have the key that goes to the cylinder, you can get the lock out without taking out the seat. If you don't have the key, then take out the driver's seat as you'll have to drill out the plug that protects the spring loaded detent.
I'm just repeating things here, but I am a big fan of the steel key, and I save all the lock cylinders I can find, even busted ones, because you need the little wafers inside it for the locksmith to set up the lock. If you can supply the original lock, then there might be enough wafers in good enough condition to get a proper result.
And, if you are planning on deleting the reverse lockout, then that is another operation in and of itself that needs to be done, by completely removing the shifter assembly.
One more tip is if you can get a complete spare shifter assembly, and set up the ignition key in the spare ahead of time, you can swap in the assembly in a matter of an hour if you don't run into any other problems. That's what I've been doing -- that way, the assembly is fixed and ready to roll, and all it becomes is an assembly swap rather than a drilling, extracting the cylinder, fighting the reverse lockout, accidentally installing the shifter with the reverse lockout in the wrong position, removing it all again, getting it correct, installing the shifter, but losing the screws into the black hole, taking it all out again to retrieve the lost screws, then put it back together and then the key locks up and won't turn, and then start all over again. That's the way we do it around here, until I decided to just get a spare shifter assembly and swap it in........
Better order a Bentley 16V repair manual.
