A solid tune up and a cat should be sufficient. CA exempt is prior to '76 or 39+ years old (to be declared an antique??) At one point or another, every Saab c900 we have had (7 cars) has failed at least once - usually Nox at low RPM. The fail and free re-test promotion used by most smog stations has been banned or at least is now heavily frowned upon by the BAR according to my local smog guy. This is a new development and it cost me over $450 for a cat and 2 smog tests on our '92 c900t Vert so $100 worth of ignition parts from eEuro and a couple days fussing around chasing leaks, etc. seems well-spent. I really wonder what it would have cost if an Indy did it. I'm all for clean air but keeping a well-maintained c900 on the road is getting harder and more expensive as time goes on - at least in CA.
