Seal contamination issues? Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Sat, 8 Mar 2014 05:48:25 In Reply to: Odd clutch operation, 85turbosled, Fri, 7 Mar 2014 22:20:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Don't know what you used for lube when resealing the master and slave cylinders, but seals are sensitive to incompatible chemicals. Don't know what materials the rebuild kits are used for the seals - maybe EPDM to be compatible with glycol brake fluid. In material compatibility table from McMaster website under "General properties" link, EPDM is not recommended (NR) for hydrocarbons. I use a liquid lube made by EIS brake products that supposedly compatible with everything. However this does not appear to be available any longer. McMaster does sell O-ring lubes, but not sure which is appropriate for brake seals. With the EIS lube I don't have problems with heat sensitivity or rolling O-rings when assembling slave cylinder. Also seems to work OK when pressing in upper control arm bushings.
