Can't go above 4000 RPM Posted by Paul K [Email] (#2071) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul K) on Fri, 25 Jul 2014 19:46:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 93' T900 that I bought recently which has a problem with going over 4000 RPM. Last night I changed out the plugs/wires/cap/rotor with NGK/Bouigcord/Bosch/Bosch components, on the car the setup was similar but I wasn't sure of the age of the components so I replaced everything. The car appears to have the correct ECU for its year but the APC seems to have come off a different car because there's some writing on it saying it belonged to a 1990 900 Turbo, the part number is (7566599).
The specific problem is that when I hit 4000 rpm the engine will not let me easily rev beyond this point. I'll go up a gear at this point and be allowed to reach about the same rpm and then the same thing happens. Boost at this point appears to be at the end of the yellow just before the red on the boost gauge. The interesting thing is when I disconnect the APC solenoid valve the engine works quite well with the engine providing linear power all the way up to redline. Reading off the standard boost gauge in the car with the APC solenoid disconnected is somewhere around the 1/4 mark in the yellow.
What should I be checking at this point? I have some spare parts such as a distributor that I could try on to see if the vacuum advance has anything to do with this problem. In general the vacuum lines look okay but this was going to be my next step in trying to figure this out.
