Probably an alternator issue Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Mon, 29 Sep 2014 14:18:46 In Reply to: Starter solenoid heat soaked?, Used to be Chaz, Mon, 29 Sep 2014 12:31:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Your description sounds like a classic battery/charging system problem. The battery will "chemically recharge" when the car is parked overnight and that's why it starts cold after sitting. Your alternator is not making any current so you are running on the battery which eventually goes flat. Most common reason for that is a disconnected alternator ground wire. In the C900 the alternator is rubber mounted so there must be a small wire going from the case of the alternator to a ground point, usually the inner fender or the intake manifold near the dipstick clamp. Check that the small field wire is attached securely to the alternator too.
Otherwise you may need a new voltage regulator. It's bolted into the back of the alternator and the third likely suspect is a defective alternator. This all is assuming that you've checked, cleaned and tightened the red positive cables that run from the alternator output to the starter motor and then on to the battery and cleaned up the battery and engine ground cables as well.
