Perf board might give you more options, and opinions.....it's been pretty quiet over there.....
The simple way to describe the original system is that they set it up lean for fuel economy, and then tried to put in safety nets like knock sensing to keep you from destroying it, and some enrichment features that aren't even close to what you need to produce power.
So, it looks like to me that you need more fuel. Some people put in the chip that adds more fuel. Instead of that we added two 431 injectors to the intercooler pipe and tuned with a Split Second injector controller. Some people go the T5 route. Some go Megasquirt. It kind of depends on what your goals are and how much dough you plan to budget. It can really take out a chunk of time in the process too, so if you don't have the time, then the money doesn't matter if you can't spend it:-)
Keep building your mod list and the vendor ( helps identify any oddity ) and see if the perf board has any other ideas.
In summary, lack of "additional" fuel is what is causing the high AFR reading.
