Does it crank? Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Sun, 7 Dec 2014 12:54:23 In Reply to: no start..., Steven, Sat, 6 Dec 2014 12:55:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Steven, Does the car crank over at all or does it not even crank? If it doesn't even crank then the most common cause of that is that the small yellow wire which energizes the starter solenoid when you turn the key has been swapped with one of the other wires that go to the oil pressure sending unit or the alternator field. Seen that done a lot following power unit R and R's. Otherwise just check to be sure that that yellow wire is securely connected to it's spade connector on the solenoid. You can just jump with a short piece of wire from the main starter lug (where the huge red wire is attached) to the spade terminal where the yellow wire goes and see if the engine cranks (BE SURE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL!!). There is a remote starter connection in the round test connector as you've described BUT that won't help you find the problem. If the wires are connected correctly and the starter motor still doesn't work then you should trouble-shoot that circuit from one end to the other until you find the problem. Start by determining whether the yellow wire shows 12 volts when the key is in the start position and work from there. Now if the car cranks but won't start that is a whole nother deal entirely.
