I know the conventional wisdom on here is, make sure all vac lines and bushings into the valve cover are intact, or replace, but many people have struggled mightily with high idle that is plainly not due to a vacuum leak, at least an obvious one. The idea of checking the intake-to-head seams for a vacuum leak is I guess next in line but it seems an unlikely source to me.
I have an '89 NA that occasionally shows high idle and seems to often drop if I kick the gas pedal, though it's not a linkage hangup. They also advise to clean the throttle body inside thoroughly with carb cleaner or something, and I think this is probably my problem, something hanging the throttle plate up. Or maybe I have a sticking AIC valve, or one with a worn armature/brushes.
I had an earlier '89 that had this, much worse, and it went away when the ECU died and I replaced it. I think the old ECU was feeding it an overlean mixture; it got better gas mileage before the swap.
