With regards to the cruise control, I can definitely back up the possibility that the problem is the cruise computer (ECU). I have a 92 900S and had the same irritating problem. It is easy enough to check for leaks and other faults within the cruise vacuum system, which you should do first, but my money is on that cruise ECU.
I found the older computer (Cruise ECU) and rewired my car to use that computer. There were instructions on the internet, but that was a few years ago so I'm not sure if it is still up there though. If you don't want to get the older (better) ECU, you can take your ECU apart and carefully resolder all the connections. I did that and it fixed it for a while, but I was happy to replace it with the older ECU and it hasn't failed once since.
If you are in a pinch let me know and I can find the parts numbers for you (old ECU vs new ECU)
