Hi,
I have a '92 turbo hatch with 93K. I use the car primarily for skiing, so it doesn't get driven much. It had been sitting since November and starting it up yesterday took a while. The engine cranked and cranked maybe for about 30 seconds, kind of hard to estimate it felt like a lot longer. I let it sit for a few seconds then cranked and cranked again, you could tell it was trying and it was getting close so I kept the key turned. It did eventually start and it seemed to run fine.
I drove it for about 6 miles and then turned it off. It started up right away. About 4 more short drives and the car started up fine each time.
This morning I turned the key and heard a click and no crank. I checked the battery and it was fully charged. Tried tuning the key a few more times then it started again. Drove it a few hundred yards parked it turned off engine. Went back to car 30 minutes later and it started 3 times in a row with no hesitation.
I know it has to be the starter or the ignition switch. But with it starting now, is there any way to diagnose it. I have replaced starters before but not an ignition switch.
Should I order both parts and wait for a reoccurrence of the problem?
Any advice would be appreciated.
