I agree - there is nothing out there. So you may as well get something completely different. I bought a 2002 Wrangler three years ago and am loving it.
My 2006 Mazdaspeed6 was the closest thing I had driven to a reliable car that was (relatively) inexpensive and had a european feel. As far as the interior goes, the new Kias (yeah, I know what you're thinking) have that driver-centric dash thing going on. So many of the other brands have completely symmetrical dashes (probably for easy conversion to RHD). Boring.
Volvos are severely overpriced for what you get.
The WRX is a fine automobile, but it's still an economy car. Our 2003 Forester was a MUCH nicer automobile than the 2013 Forester I took for a test drive. Subaru has really cheapened their cars over the last decade or so.
Bottom line? Enjoy your Saabs while they last, then get into something else and just remember the wonderful times you had in them that won't be repeated. :(
