I like that kind of pump. I've done it that way too if the electric pump is failed. If I'm salvaging the pump, then I put a pressure tester on it when I power it up before sending the fuel to a container to see how it performs. Saabstalker is harvesting parts on the car, so it would be a good time to pressure test it and if it fails, then a siphon is about the only way, unless you use the hillbilly method and poke a hole in the tank, but he's harvesting the tank......
My suggestion on the entry point is the fuel sending unit. You want to be careful with it when harvesting, and have a box ready to put it in, make sure you geez it down with some Sea Foam and wrap it in a plastic bag, and store it pointing upwards, not on the side.
The way that we swap fuel in the racecar is we have a connection on the fuel rail on the return side, so we can expel the pump gas into a container for later use, and then put in the VP racing juice for the track. Jump fuse 27 to 30 with the key on, and make sure the fuel isn't going on the ground or engine, and always have a fire extinguisher handy.
