Painter's tape for the guideline. Mask it under where you want the molding. So, you have the door closed and mask under the door molding and then pull that to the back just off the line of sight. Then look right down the barrel like your going to shoot the enemy, and target the line right on the level mark, and push the tape onto the body.
The blue or green stuff doesn't leave a mess behind after you pull it off.
Of course you want to wipe down with a good cleaner before you stick on the painter's tape or the 3M stuff.
You will need someone to hold the end of the molding like others have said -- pull out the slack and use the top of the painters tape as your guide. I'm probably repeating what the others have said, so sorry to mumble the same werds over......
