On my 88 (sorry if it's different), I found I was able to access the inner-most bolt with different combinations of socket extensions and flexible u-joints. I used a box end wrench (with grease) in the box end to hold the nut in place and not have it drop into the "other" world.
I don't recall remove a lot of plumbing. I did remove the air intake.
