BobD was on to something here. I incorrectly assumed it was clutch-related because I had just completed the installation and figured I screwed something up. The clutch is actually just fine and an issue with power delivery seems to be the problem. I had recently cleaned up the connections of the wires (not plug wires) connected to the distributor because the car wasn't starting regularly but that really shouldn't have resulted in this problem.
I then replaced the plugs and wires as they were about due, but when I completed that, the car turned over and made a loud popping sound and won't start at all. I've got no idea what it could be. Plugs/wires are on tight and torqued properly and in the 1 3 4 2 firing order. I'm at a loss and about to have it towed to the local specialist.
