OK, I think that I solved the problem (though not totally fixed yet) I thought that I had it narrowed down to blowing fuses every time I closed the hood. It was suggested that the switch over the passenger headlight might be shorting, so I disabled that, fuses still blew. Not that. Still fuses blew when I closed the hood, so I wiggled the fuse box, and any and all wires going though the firewall, and the fuse stayed good. Still blew when I closed the hood. Then I tried incrementally closing the hood. All OK until I closed the hood. Then it dawned on me - I was sitting in the seat to test the window switches! So I tried the switches from outside the car and the windows worked. I sat in the seat, and nothing - blown fuse. So I took the seat out and the console and wiggled the wire loom and didn't see anything obvious, but I routed the wires in a more favorable location. Put the seat back in, and everything works. Still have to take it apart to make a permanent fix, but now I have isolated the short to a particular area (although everything is working right now.
