Lots of info on this subject by doing a search here and you obviously found plenty.
IMHO, you won't get that far with just modding a box only unless you go full-in with red injectors, 3.0 FPR and a chipped ECU at which point you'll risk your transmission and have poor economy. I have modded a couple -599 boxes by tweaking the pots and have several Red boxes and they all pretty much do the same thing except one extra-hot SPG9 box that is almost unusable without the other upgrades.
What works nicely in my book ('93 Turbo, '90 SPG, '92 Vert) is a 2.8 FPR and 24# Blue Denso injectors with either a tweaked -599 or a Red Box and most importantly, a modded dizzy capsule similar to Notnoel's and advancing the timing to 18-20˚. The result is a fun and reasonably fast c900 that has smooth drive-ability and decent 28-30mpg mileage. Modding the dizzy and tweaking the timing so far has been the best change I have done because the car will now pull energetically and seamlessly right into the red without any flat spots or irritating shut-downs under high load in 4-5th gear on the highway. At this point, T5 seems like the only way to make it any better - at least to me.
