I wound up replacing almost everything--- new (3) hoses, expansion valve, evaporator, condenser. I kept the hardline that connects the drier & condenser. I probably didn't need to change the evaporator, as my old unit bench-leak tested ok after I had installed the new one. I changed the condenser because I had messed up the threads on the inlet fittings when I disassembled things to flush the old system. I decided to stick w/ R12 as I had 3x 14oz cans sitting on the shelf. Once I had the system pumped down and leak free, recharging went easy, and system worked fine. I had been driving for 4 or 5 years w/out AC, it was like having a new car again:)
