For me it's not the "I need to go fast," it's the "how fast can I make this in theory" and kinda a completion of an "all the C900 upgrades" checklist. I run a 727hp/610lbft daily driver, so I've already got speed (and more so acceleration) covered. At this point I'm trying to impress myself more than anything, as I was never classicly trained in automotive tech, just gleaned info from the good 'ol YouTube Academy... that, and I broke a few things and learned how not to do certain stuff.
It's also fun to hype each other up and increase the SAAB community camaraderie - to have something to not just stand out even further from the normal car crowd, and to not just have a quirky, unmistakable C900, but to have a hated-at-times, loved-on, custom and upgraded C900 with all the bells and whistles. Going fast and making cool sounds may be the goal of some, but to be able to stand back, take it all in, and say "damn, I can't believe I made it all work somehow" is my goal. That and to show it off at Cars and Coffee down here in NC to those who did't know that SAAB made such badass engineering marvels with gearboxes made of fine china, or that SAAB even existed in the first place. I still run into folks that mistake these cars for Volvos... *sigh*
