MSD BTM info Posted by Kevin K [Email] (#374) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin K) on Wed, 4 Oct 2000 15:42:28 In Reply to: MSD BTM, Same as AID, James, Wed, 4 Oct 2000 13:04:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The AID was designed to mimic the BTM function. Are you sure it will not work with an 8V-T, I thought Dave found it would.
I have more info on this at Jeff's site, under MSD click. For 8V-T, advance basic timing about 2 deg. The 16V-T seems to like more initial advance (it has no centrifical advance kicking in).

BTM-Universal
------------
.... up thru M85 the tach and FI signal comes off the small blue wire to the coil neg. For the BTM-universal only, this
wire can be attached to the coil neg, and a spiking voltage there with the BTM should drive tach and FI without the tach adaptor. The heavy blue wire, from the stock ign module, still goes to the white BTM input.
If this does not work, put both blues to the BTM white again, install adaptor from coil pos to the white, and get the MSD diode that goes in parallel with the adaptor. ( I had to use both adaptor and diode to make my 6A and BTM work. The adaptor conditions the signal for the tach and FI, and the diode chops it a bit to keep the BTM happy. )
For M86 and later, the tach and FI are signaled by a separate output from the stock ign module, as Jouko noted. The BTM should work directly. I suggest Jouko e-mail msd directly about his friend's problem, and ask for 'Silver'. He thought the stock ign module may be weak on that one car.

For high boosters, the BTM will work best with the pressure signal to it limited to mabe 12-15 psi. This relief device should help cap the max pressure signal:
Here is the relief device, send an email to Darren.
"We have an unadvertised item for $25, that should work in your situation. It includes a restrictor and works well as a MAP sensor relief..."
