Is it a turbo? A turbo requires the best protection you can offer. While I use Mobil 1 in my wife's non-turbo minivan, my Saab gets the "really, really good," no compromises stuff.
I use only RedLine products for my Saab. 5-30 works year-round in Minneapolis and for winter in hotter climates ... although when I lived in Phoenix, I used 10-40 in summer for added upper-end viscosity. Change the filter every 3,000 and the oil every 12,000 or so.
Personal preference:
For gearbox lube, many people on this board have agreed: there is no better product than RedLine MTL, specifically designed for the Saab gearbox.
The stuff is pricey. But I've run it since I got the car at about 30k, and I now have >200k on original motor, gearbox and turbo. Whether I'd have the same results with other oils, I can't say - - but I won't switch, either.
PS: I don't sell the stuff. Check out their website and call directly. They'll gladly ship by the case (how I get it), or maybe your local mega-auto-store stocks it.
Good luck.
