repost of old stuff:
I have more info on this at Jeff's site, under MSD click. For 8V-T, advance basic timing about 2 deg. The 16V-T seems to like more initial advance (it has no centrifical
advance kicking in).

BTM-Universal
------------
.... up thru M85 the tach and FI signal comes off the small blue wire to the coil neg. For the BTM-universal only, this wire can be attached to the coil neg, and a spiking voltage there with the BTM should drive tach and FI without the tach adaptor. The heavy blue wire, from the stock ign
module, still goes to the white BTM input.
If this does not work, put both blues to the BTM white again, install adaptor from coil pos to the white, and get the MSD diode that goes in with the adaptor. ( I had to use both adaptor and diode to make my 6A and BTM work. The adaptor conditions the signal for the tach and FI, and the diode chops it a bit to keep the BTM happy. )
For M86 and later, the tach and FI are signaled by a separate output from the stock ign module, and the BTM should work directly.
For any calls to MSD, ask for 'Silver'. He mentioned that persistant problems usually indicate a weak ignition module.
