Tach not reading (86 900T)

After driving through a monster car eating pothole at 75mph (I have the blown tire to prove it) My tach is only getting a reading about 1/2 the time. Whenever I hit a little bump it either starts reading or stops. Besided at the back of the tach itself where else should I be looking for a loose connection?
