My first waterpump went very fast. By that I mean that when the pump started to leak, it really leaked. I was driving without coolant for about 2 miles before I noticed the temp gauge really low in the green.
I knew I was out of coolant at that point. I filled with water and continued on my way. I was again out of water in another 10 miles.
This is the worst case scenario. I replaced the pump the next day!
If someone kept driving, they would have warped/cracked the head.
My second pump lasted for 80,000 miles, and this one just started to leak.
I drove it for another 500 miles with no issues other than the small leak when driving. I just replaced it last weekend.
Both pumps were the $50 ones.
