Chip:
Here's an abbreviated "recipe" for you to follow. I'll give you the short version first, which covers the bare minimums. Before you start, make sure you have the pump, gasket, gasket sealer stuff, and coolant. This procedure presumes you won't replace your belts and can work around the A/C compressor. I think it's how the Saab mechs do it.
1. drain coolant
2. loosen water pump pulley bolts (4)
3. loosen alternator tensioner and mount and move alternator to release belt tension
4. remove pulley completely
5. remove old pump
6. clean mount surface, install new one w/ sealer and gasket
7. carefully put belts on pulley (note they haven't come off below!)
8. holding alternator up for minimum belt tension, install pulley
9. re-tension and tighten alternator
10. fill and bleed coolant
Now, if you're doing the belts, or if you absolutely can't get to the pump without moving that A/C compressor, then it gets complicated, and you can refer back to my previous post for guidance. You'll remove the other two belts after step 1, above, and re-install and tension them after step 9.
Be really careful with the belts. Don't over-tension them, and look down with a strong light at the drive pulley below to make sure they're all on properly before you start your car.
Fear not. You WILL succeed.
